Charles
Drew Health Center, Inc.’s target community is a socio-economically
distressed area. The ethnically diverse population totals approximately
52,000. It is comprised of the following groups:
65% African American
25% Caucasian
3.0% Hispanic
1.0% American Indian
2.0% Asian
4.0% Other
• 72% are below the age of 45. Of that group, 48% are 18 years old or
younger.
• 12% of the population is age 65 and older.
• Educational data indicates that 68% of residents only achieved a
high school level or less.
• Nebraska poverty figures indicate that approximately 33% of all
persons whom poverty would be determined in Douglas County, Nebraska,
reside in the CDHC target community.
• 59% of the community fall below 200% of poverty level.
• The per capita income for the community is $7,166.
• Unemployment rate is 14.4%
• According to Medicaid eligibility for Nebraska, 30% of all eligible reside in
this area and uninsured persons is estimated at 33%.
• Public and subsidized housing is provided for 34% of the
households.
